2025 International Women’s Day at Lionbridge

Ways Lionbridge is accelerating action for gender equality

As a language services provider, Lionbridge has been committed to equality for decades. Since our inception, we’ve hired and provided a supportive environment for all genders. Lionbridge has won many workplace awards over the years, repeatedly being recognized as one of America’s best workplaces for all employees and women specifically. In addition to our internal employee programs, Lionbridge has been using its AI-powered services to help our customers create content free from gendered bias. Read our blog to discover a couple of ways Lionbridge is celebrating International Women’s Day and accelerating action for gender equality in 2025.

#1 Use AI To Find and Fix Bias

Lionbridge is using AI localization, AI translation, and AI content optimization services to fight gender bias and ensure responsible AI. We have a few AI solutions to help identify and remedy gender bias or hate speech in content.

AI training is one of the most prominent. Lionbridge offers a crowd-testing platform, Aurora AI Studio™, powered by a highly diverse, global community of crowd testers. These crowd-testing solutions help promote responsible AI by asking people from all genders, ages, and locations to find unfair representations of women, men, and all genders. The customer can use this service to reevaluate and fix potentially offensive items before the content reaches new markets or is published. This AI service effectively advocates for gender equality because of the diversity of our crowd-testing participants. They can identify biased content because they’re often from underrepresented groups. They can also offer creative, globally resonant ideas on how to make content feel more inclusive.

"To #accelerateAction for gender equality in 2025, I'll promote respect and fairness in all my interactions at work."

Maria Zhang, PM Team Leader, Jinan, China

Beyond our AI training services, we also use AI content generation and an AI localization platform to help our customers generate more inclusive content. These AI solutions include meticulously developed Large Language Models (LLMs) trained on a vast array of data. The training helps the LLMs efficiently identify and furnish alternatives for intolerant or harmful content. Whether translating, localizing, or creating new multilingual content for customers, our LLMs will quickly identify any potentially problematic areas.

"To #accelerateAction for gender equality in 2025, I'll demonstrate leadership qualities like empathy, collaboration, and respect. I want to inspire others to follow suit and embrace our differences as strengths. This will help build a more equitable, inclusive future."

Jazmin Cardoza, Onboarding Project Manager, San Jose, Costa Rica

#2 Upskilling Women and Nonbinary Employees in AI

To carry on the spirit of International Women’s Day all year, Lionbridge is also continuing to put significant efforts into upskilling our employees in AI. Learning to use AI will be a powerful way to help accelerate action for gender equality because AI mastery is crucial for career advancement in 2025 and beyond. Lionbridge is upskilling employees of all genders in AI in several ways:

  • Offering AI trainings: We conduct frequent AI trainings in our internal AI tool (Azure AI), our services, and customer tools.

  • Setting AI goals: We ask every employee to set their own AI goal every year. This goal typically involves learning to use AI to make their work more efficient or achieve new performance levels.

  • Running a monthly AI contest: Lionbridge employees can participate in a contest every month where they submit innovative ways to use AI in their jobs. The winners are announced, celebrated, and earn a significant cash prize. This contest helps incentivize and encourage our female and nonbinary employees to boost their AI acumen.

  • Participating in webinars: We recently sponsored and participated in a webinar for women in language services (we partnered with Women in Localization) about upskilling in AI. This webinar widened the range of people we support in gender equality to those outside the Lionbridge family. People attended from many other companies across the language services sector. You can see some highlights here:
  • Encourage team AI usage: Every manager and team at Lionbridge is encouraged to add AI to their workflows. Managers often suggest AI-powered methodologies to their teams. They’re also open to suggestions for new ways to use AI to assist with team and individual responsibilities.

“To #accelerateAction for gender equality, I will support women’s voices in meetings and decision-making processes and continue using gender-neutral language to promote inclusivity.”

Marta Gontarczyk, Language Excellence Manager
Warsaw, Poland
