SELECT LANGUAGE:
Name: Ann Lazarus-Barnes
Hometown/Lionbridge Office:
Waltham, MA (Lionbridge HQ).
Job Title:
Chief People Officer
How long have you been at Lionbridge?
2.5 years
What does a typical work day look like for you?
I usually start very early in the morning with a long commute from rural NH and a nice update call with someone on the HR team in Asia or Europe. I like to get my “Things to Do” straightened out as soon as I hit my desk and then start to work down the list. Calls and folks stopping in to provide a progress report or just check in are my favorite part of the day! I wind up by early evening and take the time during my commute home to catch up with family.
What is your favorite place in your office?
I like the area just outside my office, because the Waltham HR team is right there—they all have a ton of energy and are full of great ideas and a lot of fun to work with.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is seeing the impact that global initiatives have on all Lions—launching a Performance Management system, for example, which allows employees to get the benefit of feedback and recognition. That’s the best part of what I do. I also really love traveling to our different sites and meeting Lions worldwide and figuring out how whatever we do in HR can help Lions around the world.
What is the most exciting opportunity on the horizon for your team this year?
We have a lot of work to do on talent acquisition and building our employer brand, which is critical to attracting great talent. We’re also concentrating on making the candidate experience fabulous and super easy to apply.
I speak 1! language (list them!)
English.
A tourist visiting my city shouldn’t miss…
I live in a small rural town in the Northeast US, and really the only thing we have are great trails through the woods. So, I would say a visitor shouldn’t miss the chance to hike!
Outside of work, I always make time for...
My daughters, my husband, and my two bulldogs, plus reading, gardening, and exercise.
The best piece of career advice I’ve ever received is...
Good business decisions are never made out of fear.
My hidden talent is…
I am great at picking winners in a horse race.
