Training to Provide AI-Powered Services

Created by Lionbridge’s GenAI adoption team, who have strong backgrounds in change management, the lab trains Lionbridge employees to use AI tools in secure, effective ways. The team began developing the AI Lab in early September 2023. The lab contains a series of interactive web pages full of AI training content. (Notably, this content was actually developed using GPT.) Besides training modules, the lab includes interactive content, such as:

  • Exercises
  • Forms
  • Videos
  • Webinars
  • Trainings
  • Curated content
  • How-to guides

Perhaps most importantly, the AI Lab has a section devoted to AI safety.

Three levels of training have been offered to ensure the Lionbridge team is skilled and confident using AI. Employees have been thoroughly prepared to serve customers with AI-powered solutions. They can take all levels of training, or choose from each as needed.

Level 101: Delivers training on basic prompting and how to use each AI tool, such as Bard, GPT, etc. 

Level 201: This training covers advanced prompting. It also delves into AI applications for specific roles within the company. The training helps employees make their jobs easier and start applying AI tech customer-facing activities.

Level 301: Provides advanced training on how to use Microsoft Copilot and Power Suite (Power Automate, Power App, and Power BI) to develop more comprehensive solutions while also leveraging AI.

Lionbridge’s AI Lab itself is proof of Lionbridge’s deft usage of AI. Our team harnessed the power of AI to build all its content and images. We also used AI to make our work more efficient. The team was able to construct the AI Lab in just seven workdays. 

The AI Lab’s Impact on Lionbridge

The AI Lab has deeply impacted Lionbridge. When AI tools were first introduced in 2023, some Lionbridge employees required training. After participating in the AI Lab, most employees now embrace AI usage daily. Lionbridge’s AI sandbox, a secure AI environment for employees to experiment, has over 1,000 users daily. Around 4,200 people completed the trainings, or about 70% of employees.

A second critical impact is how AI has become a part of the company’s DNA. Lionbridge employees aren’t just experimenting with the technology occasionally. Employees are now expected to use AI to assist with their jobs regularly. Everyone has been required to set at least one yearly goal regarding AI usage in their job. With AI as a cornerstone of daily activities, the company has built a deep familiarity with the technology. We also stay abreast of its changes and upgrades — no unpleasant surprises here. Everyone at Lionbridge has been trained to become an AI enthusiast, if not an expert.

How the AI Lab Improves Lionbridge’s AI-Powered Services

Lionbridge’s AI Lab benefits customers in several ways. Firstly, employees can perform their jobs more efficiently. This efficiency cuts timelines significantly, helping us serve customers markedly faster. Sometimes, the efficiency also reduces project labor costs, saving customers significantly.

A second impact is that Lionbridge can help our customers confidently experiment using AI-powered solutions for their content and language needs. Unlike our competitors, Lionbridge has been preparing to meet customers’ AI needs from the base level. We’re intimately familiar with the risks and advantages of AI, even as it updates constantly. Customers can rest assured their AI solutions providers will use the technology to its optimal ability without any potential cybersecurity risks, compromised data, etc.
